Dallas, Texas has been known as a city of little consequences regarding speeding tickets and other moving citations. More than 30,000 outstanding Ticket citations exist in Dallas County; the citations are worth more than 550,000 dollars. Drivers that choose to ignore tickets and treat them as scrap paper in their glove box compartment are rarely punished for their care free attitude. In an effort to prevent millions of dollars from sliding through the cracks and to create consequences for Dallas drivers that ignore traffic tickets, the scofflaw program has been introduced.
The proposed scofflaw program will prevent Dallas drivers that have overdue and outstanding violations from registering their automobiles. Dallas government officials are of the belief that not allowing drivers to register their vehicles shall get their immediate attention. Drivers that ignore their Dallas speeding tickets, moving citations, failure to show proof of insurance and expired inspection sticker tickets will be shocked when they attempt to register their vehicle. If a driver cannot register their vehicle they will not be obtain a current inspection sticker. An expired inspection sticker allows officers to identify potential unregistered vehicles resulting in additional citations for the driver.
Dallas County has loss nearly a half of a billion dollars during the last 6 years due to delinquent traffic citations. Not all delinquent citations were traffic related but officials believe the proposed program will create consequences for driver’s actions and begin to contribute funds to the millions of dollars lost.
I am of the belief traffic ticket lawyers shall see surges in business as the laws are enacted in the cities across Dallas. Drivers will now be forced to deal with their tickets or run the risk of warrants being issued and facing greater financial consequences.
